Recommender Systems and Collaborative Filtering techniques

Abstract:
The talk will introduce the audience to Recommender Systems and in particular to Collaborative Filtering techniques.
The work conducted by Dr. Eugenio Tacchini in terms of Classification, Serendipity and Discovery in the Music Recommender Systems domain will be shortly presented, with a focus on the aspects that could be pertinent to the collaboration with the Image Processing Group.
Finally, two work proposals related to the possible usage of image features extraction in combination to Music Recommender Systems will be presented, the first aimed at reducing data sparsity using cross-domain recommendations and the second aimed at improving users fruition experience combining pictures and music.

Bio:
Eugenio Tacchini graduated in Economics at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Piacenza (Italy) and in Computer Science at the Università degli studi di Milano (Italy), where he also got a PhD in Computer Science in 2012 with a thesis on Music Recommender Systems, supervised by Prof. Ernesto Damiani. During his PhD he has been visiting researcher at the Freie Universität Berlin, working on Semantic Web and linked Data (supervised by Prof. Christian Bizer), and at the University of California, Berkeley, working on Recommender Systems (supervised by Prof. Ken Goldberg). He is currently a lecturer of Information Systems a the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Piacenza (where he has taught Information Systems and Web development courses in in bachelor and master's degree programs) and an entrepreneur in the fields of Rapid Application Development tools and Music Recommender Systems.
